It's Only Rock'n'Roll

Jag har alltid gillat "sidekicks", dvs de där personerna som är någons högra hand, han/hon som gör det hela möjligt eller ger allting "det där lilla extra". När det gäller gitarrhjälten Gary Moore har min favorit-sidekick alltid varit Neil Carter (och inte Phil Lynott som det kanske är för de flesta). Det är förmodligen Neil Carter som skrivit hela "Empty Rooms" till exempel...

I början av 80-talet fick Neil Carter plats i ett dalande UFO och kring 1983 skrev han "Empty Rooms" till UFOs kommande platta som aldrig blev av. Han började istället samarbeta med Gary Moore och på plattan "Victims Of The Future" finns den första versionen av låten med. Låtskrivare är såklart Gary Moore/Neil Carter men jag tror att Neil hade låten ganska färdig innan Gary ens hörde den. En lyckträff för dem båda blev det i alla fall och de höll ihop fram till Gary skulle ge sig på blues 1990 (Man ser Neil Carter på keyboards i videon för "After The War" nedan). De "återförenades" 20 år senare och Neil Carter var med på Gary Moores konsert (och turné) på Sweden Rock Festival 2010.

Hur som helst, bloggande ska ju bestå av att lämna ut sitt liv på nätet, är det inte så? Jag fick ett infall och skrev ett mail till Neil Carter nu när Gary Koore gått bort. Fånigt? Javisst. Naivt? Absolut. Onödigt? Förmodligen. Hur som helst gjorde jag det ändå och det här skrev jag...

Even if the the death of Gary Moore is a loss for us all I want to send my condoleances (correct english?) to you for losing a friend, co-worker and great musical companion. Even if many people don't "read between the lines" it's pretty obvious that Gary has a lot to thank you for when it comes to his solo-career-success.

During the last couple of years it has been clear to me that one of my favourite words is "sidekick". (e.g. what would Axl be without Slash, McCartney without Lennon and, why not, Laurel without Hardy...). You, for sure, are my "favourite sidekick": Writing Empty Rooms and being an excellent co-pilot in Gary Moore hard rock journey and also, believe it or not, "Making Contact" was the first UFO-album I knew and listened to many, many times without knowing who played on it...

So, why am I writing to you? (and hope it gets through, please send me a note if you get this, it would mean a lot to me to know you read it). Well, I saw you guys on the Sweden Rock Festival in 2010 (I alson saw you in Stockholm 1987 and 1989 but that's another story) And now that Gary Moore has so sadly passed away I was thinking about the new songs that you may or may not have started the recording of. You played two good songs at SRF and I'm sure you jammed on a few more.

Did you record any of it or were you supposed to?  Either way I hope you have the strength, and get the financial support,  to finish the project. If there are Gary-vocals and Gary-guitars then use it. If there is not; Record & sing the songs yourself and invite some solo guitarists influenced by Gary to participate (John Norum of Europe is an excellent choice by the way and I think you would do great together, check him out!).
